8 ways to stay motivated while working from home
Do you ever struggle to stay excited and on top of anything you do every day at work, especially during last months, when most of us are working from home? If the answer is YES, please don’t worry, we all have these days sometimes. Motivation is key, when it comes to being productive, however sometimes it may be really difficult to find and maintain. On the top of that, according to the survey conducted by Harvard Business Review, working from home appears to be even less motivating compared to working in an office. With multiple distractions and having to multitask every minute, it’s really challenging to stay on track. But don’t worry, everything is under control 😉 We have a few tips to help you stay motivated in your home office.
1. Create your own schedule
Time management is one of universal skills, that is necessary in every workplace. Therefore, one of the most crucial things while working from home, is creating a routine and schedule for the day. You may think, that it’s nothing new, however, during these unusual times it’s more important than ever. Without a proper plan, your workday may extend to late evening hours. That’s why it’s necessary to start a day with quick working plan and actually stick to it as much as possible.
2. Think about your impact
Remember, that no matter what you do, you’re making someone’s life better, even if it’s a person you don’t know. Knowing that you have an impact in the world, can make your pushing through a lot easier. So always remember the people your work serves. 😉
3. Limit your distractions
One of the most difficult thing to manage, when it comes to working from home are distractions. I’m sure you know the feeling, when you try to stay totally focused, but your kids keep asking you something every 20 minutes, your phone keeps sending you social media notifications every now and then, or you just realized you forgot to do laundry. Let’s be honest – we’ve all been there. In order to stay motivated and focused, you have to establish some rules with everyone in the household. Another thing, is to try to stay away from your phone or at least mute the notifications and check the work-related chats once an hour. Trust me, you will see a massive difference!
4. Use To-Do List
This probably one of the best methods for staying motivated. Experts say that drafting your to-do-list should be the first thing you do in the morning and the most successful people definitely adopted this habit. Creating list will help you stay motivated and on track, while working on a multiple projects.
5. Set Goals
Personally, I’ve never paid attention to setting up goals in my early years, but once I’ve learnt how to do it properly, it truly changed my life. Setting short-term goals is as important as setting long-term goals, which will help you to maintain your motivation. Keeping goals in mind and reading them everyday will really add the sense of importance to your work.
6. Implement the 10-minute rule
Something getting started is very difficult. Again, we all know how it feels, especially, when you’re working on 10 different projects, that also can be challenging at times. But don’t panic, we have a little tip for you. Have you ever heard about a 10-minute rule? Get started by telling yourself you’ll be only working on it for 10-minutes and then you can take a short break. Most likely, after that time, you’ll keep going, but it’s a great way to start 😉
7. Build relationships
Having a good relationship with your co-workers has a big impact on how you’re feeling about your working environment, which can also influence how motivated you are every day. Spending time with like-minded people, who support each other and share similar vision for the future is a huge bonus, that will definitely help you to succeed.
8. Stay positive
This year has already given us plenty of reasons to dwell on the negative things that happened to us. The key is to try to find the balance between the good and the bad. Nobody is perfect, and we all can lose our attitude sometimes. But remember to be kind to yourself and always reward yourself for small achievements.
