Reinventing your personal brand

Reinventing your personal brand

Have you ever thought what is your personal brand? What are you known for? What would people say about you when you leave the room? Do you wonder sometimes how your friends see you? Are you always that one person who would organise all the trips/nights out or you are more the on who is pretty laid back and just follows the rest of the group?

We all have some characteristics that make us different and set us apart from everyone else in both personal and professional life. These characteristics define who you are and influence how you present yourself to the rest of the world. Do you sometimes feel like this current image no longer fits who you really are and would you want to change that perception? The answer is that it’s fully possible and this article will help you to start the journey of “rebranding” yourself in three simple steps.

  1. Find your destination / discover your path

In order to reinvent your personal brand – firstly, you need to define your end goal. The last thing you want to do is to confuse yourself and people around you. Take the time to develop a plan, do some research. Everything depends on what kind of shift are you trying to make, whether it’s a career change or change on more personal level. Once, you know your goals, consider what kind of skills are important to develop, that will help you succeed and provide the credibility you will need, so others can take you more seriously.

2. Write your new story

When it comes to the career change, you should focus on developing a coherent narrative that will show the link between your past and the future goals regarding your professional life. Try to embrace the value of your prior experience and how it helped you to develop skills that you already have.

3. Reintroduce yourself

This can be a little tricky but not impossible and as you’ve completed the first steps, it’s time to put your personal brand out there. Think if you can get involved in any project that will showcase your skills and new interest. Make meaningful contacts in your industry as this will help you to be more recognised. Try to attend industry trade shows and events to build up your network further.

We all find ourselves in this kind of position in life and sometimes it may not be the easiest process, but it’s very rewarding once you manage to do it. So make the plan and start the process of reinventing the personal brand now.
