The Warrior Nun, a badass new show on Netflix

Based on the ’90s comic series Warrior Nun Areala, by Ben Dunn, Netflix’s latest addition created by Simon Barry – Warrior Nun, is a spirited and captivating ride thanks in large part to Portuguese star Alba Baptista (yes she’s Portuguese and we couldn’t be more proud! 😉 Is just us, or this new star has a huge resemblance with Ellen Page even in her face expressions?!?!

This teenage series follows Ava (Alba Baptista), a quadriplegic orphan who we meet lying dead on a coroner’s slab. However, a mad series of events through the morgue leaves an ancient holy artifact, the Halo, embedded in her back, bringing her back to life with a whole host of superpowers. She was quadriplegic most of her life and now she can not only walk but has super powers?!?! How dreamy is that? Of course from the very beginning we are captivated to follow Avas’ new adventurous life.

After finding a newfound friendship with a crew of young criminal mansion-crashers—led by  JC (Emilio Sakraya)—Ava is eventually tracked down by the Order of the Cruciform Sword, the Vatican’s society of devout women dedicated to fighting demons who have passed the Halo down from leader to leader since the Crusades. Torn between having fun and living life to the fullest with her friends and fulfilling an ancient heaven-sent destiny, Ava finds herself at the center of a tug-of-war between the demonic and the divine.

Facts: Joaquim de Almeida, who portrays Cardinal Duretti, is also a Portuguese movie star; artists like Billie Eilish, Mala Rodríguez, and Ed Carlsen, are part of this series soundtrack.
