The White Tiger, a remarkable drama with an amazing performence

The new movie by Ramin Bahrani’s “The White Tiger” had its premiere on Netflix on the 13th of January and it became an absolute hit! The movie is based on the Aravind Adiga’s price-winning book under the same title from 2008 and it’s already perceived to be one of the most successful literary adaptations of the recent years!

The story focuses on a poor, yet ruthlessly ambitious and smart Indian boy Balram (Adarsh Gourav), who gets a job as a personal driver for a successful Delhi businessman Ashok (Rajkummar Rao) and his Indian-American wife Pinky (Priyanka Chopra). Having mastered the flattery that the upper class expect from the servants, Balram brings total loyalty to his US-educated boss. He is being kindly treated by the modern-minded couple, who also pride themselves on being nice to the staff members. Everything is changing, when a terrible accident takes place and the main character is betrayed by his employers.

“The White Tiger” is not a movie about another success story in the new India. The film is a full-blooded assault on a faked system created to keep the privileged in their luxurious world and the poor on the streets far from a chance for a better life.

The movie is definitely worth watching as it is a dangerous adventure of self-betterment from the teeming city streets and a really remarkable story about a culture of servitude and inequality in modern India.
