The chic traveler’s guide to Edinburgh
Having lived in Edinburgh for the past year, I have quickly discovered that Scotland’s capital is the perfect balance of rich culture, picturesque backgrounds, sleek gastronomy and ethereal Disney-like charm. The streets of Edinburgh are paved with gold and bright possibilities, ones that are impossible to ignore in this Harry Potter-esque wonderland. The cozy yet elegant magic of this place will lure you in like no other. If you are thinking of travelling in or to the UK, I really recommend that you pay this lovely city a visit! Here’s my quick guide to what, in my opinion, are the most mystical, not-to-miss places in Edinburgh: go and discover the Scottish, sylvan yet urban appeal for yourself
Arthurs seat
If you’re in for a hike and incredible views, Arthur’s seat is the place to go. Some even consider it the very heart of the city. The magical landscape is one to not miss; but dress warmly though, the top of the mountain can get very, very windy.
Mary’s milk bar
After your incredible hike, reward yourself with a trip to Mary’s Milk Bar, the vintage, pretty-in-pink home-made ice cream place located in busy Grassmarket! Mary churns beautiful, exotic and bohemian flavors every single morning, so stop by early!
Tigerlily
If you’re in for a classy, night on the town try Tigerlily, a stunning boutique hotel, bar and restaurant in George Street. Take your pick from their Whiskey menu (which features over 180 different varieties!) or indulge in a luxurious afternoon tea.
Penhaligon’s
The perfume choses the perfume wearer, they say… so why not do it in style by visiting the gorgeous Penhaligon’s store in Stockbridge? This classy, scented experience is made extra special when you’re offered a glass of bubbly upon entry…
Grassmarket and Stockbridge markets
Strolling through both of these incredible gastronomical markets will surely liven your palate. Home to the most scrumptious paella in town, both of these markets are worth of a visit for people with all kinds of tastes and preferences. Check online to find out the days and hours that coincide with your visit! Besides, Stockbridge is a wonderful place to visit due all of its quaint independent stores.
Dean Village
Dean village is a whimsical Swiss secret dream in Edinburgh. Not abundant in shops or touristy places, the water of Leith and the Scottish flowers rule this cozy, sleepy little town; the perfect escape from the busy city life.
Lush spa
After your long and tireless journey around Edinburgh, what better way to relax than to take a trip to one of the select few Lush spas the UK has to offer? The Edinburgh Lush spa is the perfect place to indulge in one of their incredibly luxurious experiences with fully tailored-to-your-mood Lush products.
Circus lane
If Instagram is your safe haven for pictures, Circus Lane is the place to go. This lovely, scenic street in Stockbridge keeps its charm year-round, be it in full-bloom Spring or amidst the foliage in the Fall and it is definitely worth a snap or two.
Seasonal events
I mustn’t forget to mention Edinburgh’s amazing seasonal events, such as the German Christmas market that goes on during November-December and the Fringe festival, the largest arts festival in the world that takes place in August.
Edinburgh is a quaint, picturesque city where even the back roads make you feel like you’re in a fairytale. Live out your royal Scottish fantasies in this dreamy, stylish city!
