Palmer, the movie about acceptance and love that will break your heart

“Palmer” is one of the newest movies that had its premiere on the 29th of January on the Apple TV+. Written by Cheryl Guerriero and directed by Fisher Stevens, the movie tells a story of the former American football star – Palmer (Justin Timberlake), who just finished his 12-year sentence in prison.

After leaving the prison, Palmer feels a bit lost after returning back home. Staying with his grandmother Vivian (June Squibb), the main character is facing the harsh reality, struggling to get a job and reconnect with his old friends. Things become more complicated when Vivian’s hard-living neighbor Shelly (Juno Temple) disappears on a prolonged bender, leaving her precocious and unique 7-year-old son Sam (Ryder Allen), in Palmer’s reluctant care.

Suddenly, Palmer finds himself taking care of the bullied eight-year-old boy Sam, who prefers to play with dolls instead of cars and is obsessed with fairies and dresses. Palmer and Sam develop an unlikely friendship while his mother disappears with her boyfriend.

The movie is an inspirational story about the creative gender expression, with an amazing performance of Timberlake and Ryder Allen. “Palmer” in a very honest way addresses the adult challenges that kids also face sometimes and also shows in a beautiful way how children can influence adults about living an authentic life. Definitely worth watching!
