How to Tan in Cold Weather

No matter the season, it’s always possible to get a glowing tan, you just need to know the best methods. Well, you’ve come to the right place; read on to learn the best ways to get a tan in cold weather, as well as several tips and tricks to achieve that perfect tanned skin.

Spray Tan

Even though UV rays can still penetrate through clouds (and you should be wearing sunscreen to protect your skin from any harm at all times), it rarely is enough to get a tan, so applying spray tan is your best go-to method in cold weather.

Spray tan is one of the safest ways because it only affects the top layer of your skin. Unfortunately, there is this common misconception that spray tan can only last about a week, but this depends on a lot of different factors and there are plenty of things that can be done to increase that duration.

Some people are put off by using a spray tan because they think it doesn’t last as long as a regular tan. Though a spray tan lasts 5-8 days typically. Whereas a regular tan usually only lasts slightly longer, so it’s not so inferior in that sense.

Dial it down

One great hack in particular when it comes to winter tanning is to dial it down a notch from your summer routine. You can do this by applying one coat of tan rather than two, for example. This leaves your tan looking much more natural and one coat is all you need to even out that cool undertone if you have a light complexion, or balance out the ashy tone that comes with darker skin tones.

Moisturize

It goes a long way to apply some moisturizer to your driest areas such as elbows, knees, hands, and feet before tanning. A touch of lip balm to your cuticles prevents excessive tan absorption as well.

If you have fair hair, it is a must to apply some moisturizer to your eyebrows and hairline.

Exfoliate

Exfoliating before tanning is really important not only because you ensure that your skin is smooth and clean but also that it is even in tone. Skipping this step is what prevents a flawless and even finish because your skin is drier during this season.

Use circular motions to gently massage with a body exfoliator of your choice, working your way up from your legs.

Pay special attention to your dry areas, giving them extra care just like you would with moisturizer.

When it comes to your face, this should always be approached with caution, tanning does have a bunch of benefits; a slight tan can make your eyes appear brighter and your teeth whiter while masking any redness or puffiness in the skin.
