What to wear to a Children´s birthday party

Once we hit 30, and specially when we become a mother, our social life changes drastically and your social events will be tones of kid´s birthday parties!

Children’s Birthday Parties will be to moms “the social event”, aka the place to be with our girl friends and the place to meet new people, meaning new moms, and of course the place where a lot of photos will be taken, so looking good is totally necessary.

The problem is how can we even think in looking good if we are going to stress out most of the time dealing with damage control, because we have to be honest there´s a lot that can go wrong. Last year my 5 year old son birthday party was suppose to be perfect, and believe me I worked hard for perfection, but my efforts were in vain, and I choose the worst day of that year. Was raining cats an dogs the entire time, and I had 25 children and I don´t even know how many parents inside the house! Needless to say it was insane, but incredibly my son found everything normal and loved the party. I just love him! :)

However I kept my principle, being a chic and elegant mother to receive all my guests at my son’s party. I think that if we don´t get dressed up for our son´s birthday party what else we will dressed up for? He´s wedding?!?! I just like to dress up, and if I have an excuse (as if I need one) better, and thank God I did it because my son told me that I looked like a princess! 😉

So what are we going to wear to such a social event, It’s not exactly like dressing for an adult birthday party, kids are messy, chocolate faces can decide to hug our legs at any moment, and usually this parties involve some form of activity that doesn’t exactly mesh well with heels or cute dry-clean only dresses.

Some moms worry about looking good, for fear that people will ask “why are you all dolled up?” Well, just ignore them, they can be tagged in their oversized sweatpants, and risk being compared to Shrek while you will look Fabulous!

We all want to leave a good impression, so dress to have fun, try to wear something you normally wouldn’t in your everyday routine and don´t worry about wearing something daring! Meaning, wear that statement skirt, wear that T-shirt with fun prints, wear those flatforms/wedges to give you some height (you may want to stay away from the stilettos though!), and incorporate some funny and colorful accessories that are out of the ordinary.

Here we leave some chic and practical solutions, to make everyone look fabulous at a  children´s party.

How to plan the perfect yacht day

If you’re planning to go on a boat, yacht or schooner, and you are not sure on what to bring with you and what to wear, you’ve come to the right place, because we have everything covered, specially your wardrobe. 😉

– The first and most important is the sunscreen, health always comes first.

– No matter what the forecast says, or what the weather is like before you leave, be prepared for both cold and windy and blazing hot sunshine, so something warm to throw on it always a good idea.

– Make sure you choose the right footwear, it must be something that can slip on and off easily and something with a bit of grip. Just make sure that your shoes have light colored soles. Black soles that mark the deck are a big no and the first rule of boating etiquette.

– Since you won’t be on the beach for most of the time you can bring your most beautiful and delicate beachwear with you, to fill chic and glamours like Olivia Palermo in Valentino´s Yacht, however if you want to avoid your precious peaces getting wet, take a denim shorts, because denim is a great hardy fabric, and you will look perfect as well. But what would be a day on a yacht without nautical-clothes?  This trend adds an indisputable chic to every ensemble, there’s a reason Coco Chanel embraced the Breton stripe in her own wardrobe 😉 so don´t be afraid to get into the boating spirit, and wear nautical colors like blue and white with a touch of red. A kaftan is great for throwing over your swimsuit while in the cabin or eating lunch, and will protect you from the burning sun.

If you arrive in your swimsuit (and we suggest that you do) don’t forget to bring your underwear, or another swimsuit.

Bikinis are just as appropriate as a one piece, but one piece doubles as a bodysuit as soon as you throw on a pair of shorts.

– Don´t wear a long skirt or dress, not only are these a bad idea in windy conditions but boats are often 2 levels. You spend a lot of the day climbing up and down the ladder between them so don’t wear a maxi skirt or dress.

– Leave the jewelry with sharp edges at home, don´t forget to bring a pair of big sunglasses because will truly ruin your day, and a nice hat, just make sure it fits properly as that wind can strike at any time.

– Take a large tote that can handle a few changes as well as your magazines and beauty products.

– Space is a big issue on boats, well not in all boats 😉 and the changing facilities are usually below deck in the toilet. Small and cramped and terrible if you get seasick so spend as little time in there as possible.

Don’t ever get in the water when the engine or propellor are still on, remember to always down the stairs whenever you want to jump into water, and don’t bring messy foods, such as ice cream or chocolate.

 Have fun and get inspired!

Dress for Success

The old saying, “You can’t judge a book by its cover” may be true, but appearance is the key language element in first impressions. So it´s important to take care of ours and to dress for the job we want, and we will  gain a nonverbal advantage by already “looking the part.”

Appropriate dress is also a way of expressing respect for the situation and the people in it. My grandmother use to say “you´ll be treat the way you´ll present yourself”, and we can´t deny that this is a fact. It has been proven that people are more likely to give money (charitable donations, tips) or information to someone if that person is well dressed.

However in an era when CEO´s sport jeans and hoodies, it’s hard to know how to dress for your job. At most technology companies, if you wear a suit, they’ll wonder if you can relate to the casual culture of the industry. So wearing a suit daily is pretty much just for lawyers and politicians.

Since office-appropriate dressing can be confusing with a fine line between being chic and pushing the envelope too far, our suggestion is to have your go-to uniform, whether it´s dresses, black trousers, or even crisp denim that you know are appropriate to work, and never, as long as you didn’t invent a billion-dollar company in your garage, like Mark Zuckerberg think about wearing a hoodie, flip-flops, or revealing clothing part at work. And remember don´t dress for work, dress for success!
